January 13, 2008 – Detroit, MI – The engineers and designers at Lexus continue to use their groundbreaking LF-A premium sports car concept as a medium for expressing their ideas about what a high-performance sporting vehicle not only can be, but should be. In this latest expression of the LF-A, they have removed the car’s top to create a high-performance roadster. The LF-A Roadster is based on the sturdy yet lightweight carbon-fiber and aluminum body used for the LF-A coupe, which helps maintain the structure’s strength and rigidity even without a top.

Like its coupe counterpart, the LF-A Roadster is powered by a high-revving V10 engine that approaches 5.0 liters in displacement. The V10, capable of more than 500 horsepower and test-track speeds greater than 200 mph, is mounted in front of the passenger compartment but behind the frontaxle centerline in what the LF-A’s engineers refer to as a “front-mid” configuration. Ein Traum vieler Boxer-Fans wird wahr: BMW Motorrad stellt mit der neuen BMW HP2 Sport den sportlichsten, stärksten und zugleich leichtesten Serien-Boxer aller Zeiten auf die Räder. Das nunmehr dritte Modell der HP Modellreihe wurde für den ambitionierten Sportfahrer konzipiert und fasziniert durch zahlreiche exklusive Details, die bislang nur im Rennsport Verwendung fanden und zum Teil erstmals Einzug in den Serienfahrzeugbau halten.

Ungeachtet der prinzipbedingten Grenzen für die Motorleistung und der Nachteile hinsichtlich der Aerodynamik durch die Zylinderanordnung eines Boxers hat sich BMW Motorrad ganz bewusst dazu entschieden, dieses traditionsreiche Motorkonzept für einen Straßensportler mit Rennstreckeneignung weiter zu entwickeln. Die motorischen Eckdaten können sich sehen lassen: über 96 kW/130 PS bei 8750 min–1 leistet das gegenüber der BMW R 1200 S deutlich modifizierte Triebwerk. Das maximale Drehmoment liegt bei 115 Nm bei 6000 min–1, die Höchstdrehzahl des Motors erreicht mit 9 500 min–1 einen Spitzenwert.

Panasonic Toyota Racing returns to action in the Turkish Grand Prix at Istanbul Park after the traditional Formula 1 summer break. Even though there has been an extended gap between races, the team has been working as hard as ever since the last race to prepare for this weekend. A floor update and a new front wing will be introduced on the TF107s for this race. Toyota arrives in Turkey with optimism after Ralf Schumacher’s strong 6th place at the Hungarian Grand Prix last time out. The 14-turn, 5.338km Istanbul Park is the newest race track on the calendar and is regarded as one of the most challenging, with significant elevation changes and several corners inspired by the sport’s greatest tracks. Hot weather is again expected, with temperatures of over 30°C predicted, so heat and the low grip surface of the track mean Bridgestone will bring the medium and hard compounds of their Potenza tyre this weekend. Panasonic Toyota Racing left its home race at the Nürburgring empty handed after a dramatic but disappointing European Grand Prix. Jarno Trulli finished 13th but Ralf Schumacher’s battle for points ended in retirement after a collision. At the start, Jarno lined up 8th and Ralf 9th but rain on the first lap triggered chaos, with several cars spinning off, although both Toyota men drove carefully to stay on the track. At the end of the first lap, Ralf pitted but was given wet Bridgestone Potenza tyres on one side and grooved, dry tyres on the other, costing him time as the problem was rectified. Jarno also pitted twice in quick succession, losing time and positions before the race was red-flagged after four laps. Continue Reading »
