DARPA Urban Challenge 2007 in den USA: Passat Variant „Junior“ eine Runde weiter

Selbst fahrender Prototyp meistert unter Wettbewerbsbedingungen die gestellten Stadtverkehrssituationen

Wolfsburg, 10. August 2007 – Die Teilnehmer für die Urban Challenge stehen fest. Im sogenannten „Site Visit“ wurden am 14. Juni 2007 alle angemeldeten Fahrzeuge in einem Probelauf durch die DARPA* getestet. „Junior“, ein Passat Variant von Volkswagen ist jetzt offiziell für die nächste Ausscheidungsrunde (NQE – National Qualification Event) nominiert. Sie findet vom 26. -31. Oktober 2007 statt. Das eigentliche Finale wird am 3. November 2007 in Victorville, Kalifornien nahe Los Angeles ausgetragen.

Bei hochgesetzten Bremsleuchten und im Schluß- und Bremslichtbereich kommen vermehrt schon seit 1992 rote LED zum Einsatz. Audi setzte als erster Hersteller 2004 weiße LED im Außenbereich als Tagfahrlicht ein, und zwar im Audi A8 W12 und ab 2006 im Audi S6, im Audi R8 und im Audi A5/S5.

Nun stellt Audi den ersten, weltweit einzigartigen, Scheinwerfer vor, der alle Frontlichtfunktionen mit LEDs realisiert. Neben dem Tagfahrlicht sind das Blinker, Abblendlicht und Fernlicht. In the past decades, fuel cells auto technology has become a buzzword in the industry. But the hype was silenced more than a decade ago. But experts are sure that technology will play a great part in the future of the automotive realm.

John Sheridan, the president, chief executive and the director of Ballard Power Systems, remembered it fondly and paradoxically.
