Erstmals in der Geschichte der Challenge durfte die MINI Gemeinde ein echtes Bergrennen bestreiten. Im Gegensatz zu den bisherigen Auftritten in Oberhallau und Reitnau stand den 31 Piloten exakt dieselbe Strecke zur Verfügung wie den Akteuren der Schweizer Bergmeisterschaft. Diese Voraussetzungen waren wie geschaffen für den ehemaligen Tourenwagen-Schweizermeister Robert Wicki (Hagendorn).

Viele Akteure der MCS 2007 kennen die Strecke in Oberhallau. Es gab unter den 31 Teilnehmern aber auch Leute, die noch nie im Schaffhauser Klettgau gestartet sind. Zum Beispiel Albin Mächler. Der Ausserschwyzer verblüffte dabei das komplette Feld. „Ich bin wirklich noch nie hier gefahren und kann nach diesen sechs Läufen auch nicht gerade behaupten, Oberhallau würde künftige meine Lieblingsstrecke sein“, so Mächler. Dennoch setzte sich der ehemalige BMW M3 Driver ab dem ersten von drei Trainingsläufen an die Spitze und gab diese erst im dritten und letzten Lauf und nur um sechs Hundertstel wieder ab. „Mein runder Fahrstil war hier ganz klar von Vorteil. Ich ging nie wirklich ans Limit und liess auch rechts und links genügend Raum.“ Continue Reading »

Nach langer Sommerpause hat die zweite Saisonhälfte begonnen

Nürburg/Köln. Sommerpausen haben Vor- und Nachteile. Alle, die in den vergangenen zehn Wochen seit dem letzten Lauf zur Langstreckenmeisterschaft an keinem Rennen mehr teilgenommen hatten, waren beim Start zum Grenzlandrennen hoch motiviert. Dieser Eindruck drängte sich auf, als die 190 teilnehmenden Tourenwagen am Samstag pünktlich um 13 Uhr ins Rennen gingen. Ähnlich wie in einem Sprintrennen wurde gleich nach dem Start um Positionen gekämpft, ungeachtet der Tatsache, dass noch ein vier Stunden langes Rennen vor den Fahrern lag. Nur gut, dass der 6. Lauf zur Langstreckenmeisterschaft bei trockenem und sonnigem Eifelwetter ausgetragen werden konnte. Dennoch kamen in der Klasse SP1, zu der der Toyota Yaris Langstreckencup gehört, nach 27 Runden auf der 24,433 langen Kombination aus Nürburgring Kurzanbindung und Nordschleife nur vier Tourenwagen ins Ziel. TALKING TURKEY

Panasonic Toyota Racing returns to action in the Turkish Grand Prix at Istanbul Park after the traditional Formula 1 summer break. Even though there has been an extended gap between races, the team has been working as hard as ever since the last race to prepare for this weekend. A floor update and a new front wing will be introduced on the TF107s for this race. Toyota arrives in Turkey with optimism after Ralf Schumacher’s strong 6th place at the Hungarian Grand Prix last time out. The 14-turn, 5.338km Istanbul Park is the newest race track on the calendar and is regarded as one of the most challenging, with significant elevation changes and several corners inspired by the sport’s greatest tracks. Hot weather is again expected, with temperatures of over 30°C predicted, so heat and the low grip surface of the track mean Bridgestone will bring the medium and hard compounds of their Potenza tyre this weekend. Toyota has scored points in both previous visits to Turkey and will ag ain fight to add to its tally in Sunday’s 58-lap race. Continue Reading »

Panasonic Toyota Racing is on home ground this weekend for the European Grand Prix at the Nürburgring, which is located only around an hour’s drive away from the team’s factory in Cologne, Germany.

The team is determined to reward its home fans with more points after another promising, but ultimately frustrating, race weekend at Silverstone. Ralf Schumacher showed the potential of the TF107 by qualifying a season-best sixth but neither he nor team-mate Jarno Trulli finished the race. After the high-speed corners of Magny-Cours and Silverstone, the Nürburgring represents a return to medium downforce specification. As with most races this season, the team brings an upgraded car to the Nürburgring, with small aerodynamic improvements since the British Grand Prix. Jarno celebrated his 33rd birthday on 13 July with a visit to the factory to give his technical input prior to this weekend’s race, when the team aims to return to the points.

Panasonic Toyota Racing today completed its week’s testing with a solid day of running at Belgium’s Spa-Francorchamps. Following yesterday’s rain-afflicted test at the same circuit, the track was again wet for the start of the day’s action. There was no rain in the morning but the skies were grey and the tarmac took a long time to dry out. The changing track surface made comparisons difficult but Jarno did some running to test tyres in different conditions. When the track dried out in the sun after lunch he successfully completed a programme that included set-up for the Belgian Grand Prix along with suspension, aerodynamics work and starts. Toyota’s next racing appointment is the European Grand Prix next week at the Nürburgring, the closest circuit to the team’s Cologne factory. Continue Reading »

Stuttgart. Der 18-jährige Martin Ragginger aus Walz in Österreich ist der neue Fahrer im UPS-Porsche-Junior-Team. Er wird Teamkollege von Lance David Arnold (Duisburg), der in seine dritte Saison als UPS-Porsche-Junior startet. Beide treten im 400 PS starken Porsche GT3 Cup bei allen Rennen im Carrera Cup Deutschland und bei sechs Veranstaltungen als Gaststarter im Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup im Rahmen der Formel 1 an. Die Einsätze führt wie schon 2006 das Team Manthey-Racing durch. Ragginger ersetzt Jan Seyffarth, der nach zwei Jahren aus dem Junior-Team ausscheidet.
