Lotus Evora

The Lotus Evora, the all new sportscar from one of the leading global car marques has won a prestigious award at the European Aluminium Awards 2008. The aluminium structure of the Lotus Evora, the world’s only mid-engined 2+2 was triumphant, capturing the Overall Jury Prize, celebrating the technological advancements of the Lotus aluminium vehicle architecture.

In what is the first award to be bestowed on the visually stunning Lotus Evora, even before production is underway, the award, only presented when special recognition is warranted, recognises the latest developments of this low volume version of the Lotus vehicle architecture technology. The European Aluminium Award is the leading international prize of the aluminium industry and was presented to Lotus at the prestigious International World Trade Fair ‘Aluminium 2008’ at Messe Essen in Germany on Tuesday 23rd September.

Tesla - New US Electro Car

Last Wednesday the Financial Times ran a piece indicating that Tesla was now formally setting its sights on Europe. This is the first of what will be an increasing effort on our part to build the Tesla brand on the European continent with the anticipation of delivering cars to customers starting in the middle of 2009.

The idea that Tesla would expand internationally is nothing new – that has been our intention all along. There are many reasons why Europe is a very attractive market, outlined below. The thing that is new here is the timing of our expansion plans.

While issues of global warming and sustainability have become part of the mainstream progressive thinking in the United States in the past couple of years, Europeans have been passionate about them for a while now.

The first all-new Lotus since the iconic Elise made its debut in 1995, The Evora enters the sports car market as currently the world’s only mid-engined 2+2. Powered by a Lotus-tuned 3.5-litre V6 engine producing 280 PS, and weighing just 1350 kg (prototype specification), the Evora promises breathtaking performance. During preliminary testing around the famous Nürburgring, the Lotus chassis engineers report that it is extremely agile and great fun to drive – even when clad with the full development disguise that hid the beautiful lines from the prying motor-industry paparazzi.

In addition to its excellent performance and exemplary handling, the Evora offers a more refined ownership experience than Lotus’s existing smaller four- cylinder models. Its elegantly styled cabin is elegantly trimmed and its equipment list includes contemporary features such as an advanced touch- screen multi-media system and electric power-fold door mirrors.

Because one of the roles of the Evora is to attract new customers to the Lotus brand, much attention has been paid to its ease of use. Wider, taller door apertures and narrower sills make getting in and out of the cabin a less athletic undertaking than it is in Lotus’s smaller sports cars (the Elise, Exige, Europa and 2-Eleven), while the design of the cabin itself will accommodate two 99th percentile (6ft 5in tall) American males in the front seats. Die Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG, Stuttgart, zeigte erstmals den neuen Boxster RS 60 Spyder in Deutschland. Auf der 18. Auto Mobil International (AMI) feierte das jüngste Modell der erfolgreichen Boxster-Baureihe ab 4. April seine nationale Premiere. Gleichzeitig sind auf der Automesse in Leipzig, dem zweiten Produktionsstandort von Porsche neben dem Stammwerk in Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen, weitere Highlights zu besichtigen gewesen: Der innovative Antriebsstrang des zukünftigen, besonders sparsamen Cayenne mit Full Parallel Hybrid sowie der Rennwagen Porsche RS Spyder.

Mit acht Gesamtsiegen im Rahmen der American Le Mans Series (ALMS) 2007 hat sich der RS Spyder als jener in Deutschland konstruierte und gebaute Rennwagen mit den meisten internationalen Gesamtsiegen erwiesen. Der Audi TTS

Audi bringt einen neuen Sportwagen an den Start – im Frühsommer rollt der Audi TTS, das Topmodell der TT-Baureihe, zu den Händlern. Sein Zweiliter-TFSI ist ein Hochleistungsmotor, er gibt satte 200 kW (272 PS) ab. Mit dieser geballten Kraft beschleunigt er das TTS Coupé mit S tronic in nur 5,2 Sekunden aus dem Stand auf 100 km/h und weiter auf abgeregelte 250 km/h Topspeed. Der Audi TTS ist als 2 + 2 sitziges Coupé und als Roadsterlieferbar.

Mit dem TTS, der sich an eine besonders junge, dynamische Kundschaft wendet, beschreibt die Marke mit den Vier Ringen den neuesten Stand ihres Vorsprungsdurch Technik. Beim TFSI-Motor des TTS gehen die beiden Audi-Technologien Benzin-Direkteinspritzung und Turboaufladung eine ideale Verbindung ein. Der kompakt und leicht bauende Vierzylinder imponiert nicht nur mit 200 kW (272 PS) Leistung, sondern auch mit einem maximalen Drehmoment von 350 Nm, das von 2.500 bis 5.000 1/min konstant bereit steht. Die auf 2000 Fahrzeuge begrenzte „edition limited two“ zeichnet sich durch eine exklusive Farbgebung und einen hochwertigen Material-Mix aus – von außen genauso wie von innen. Außerdem präsentiert smart drei weitere zeitgemäße Varianten des einzigartigen Zweisitzers: Der smart fortwo micro hybrid drive (mhd) kommt dank einer innovativen Start-Stopp-Funktion durchschnittlich mit 8 Prozent weniger Kraftstoff aus (NEFZ) und reduziert damit den CO2-Ausstoß erheblich. Der smart fortwo cdi nutzt die Common-Rail-Direkteinspritzungstechnik neuester Generation und erzielt damit vorbildliche Verbrauchswerte.
